10-Minute Relearn Procedure

NOTE: When replacing theft deterrent control module with GM SPO replacement part, set up theft deterrent control module prior to 10-minute or 30-minute relearn procedures.
  1. Install scan tool.
  2. Turn ignition switch to RUN position.
  3. Ensure all power consuming devices are turned off.
  4. Using scan tool, select REQUEST INFO under SERVICE PROGRAMMING SYSTEM and follow scan tool on-screen instructions.
  5. Disconnect scan tool from vehicle and connect to Techline Terminal with current Service Programming System (SPS) software.
  6. Using Techline Terminal, select SERVICE PROGRAMMING SYSTEM and follow Techline Terminal on-screen instructions.
  7. Disconnect scan tool from Techline Terminal and reconnect to vehicle.
  8. Using master key, turn ignition switch to RUN position.
  9. Using scan tool, select program ECU under SERVICE PROGRAMMING SYSTEM.
  10. Scan tool must remain connected for duration of 10-minute relearn procedure.
  11. NOTE: On some vehicles SECURITY indicator light may be illuminated for duration of 10-minute relearn procedure.
  12. Observe scan tool, after about 10 minutes scan tool will display PROGRAMMING SUCCESSFUL. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Vehicle is now ready to relearn key information and/or passwords next time ignition switch is turned from LOCK to RUN position.
  13. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position and wait 5 seconds.
  14. Using master key, start vehicle. Theft deterrent control module has now learned key transponder information and PCM has now learned fuel continue password.
  15. Using scan tool, clear any DTCs.
