Removal Procedure

CAUTION: Refer to Automatic Transaxle Range Selector Cable Caution in Cautions and Notices.
  1. Remove the air cleaner intake duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Intake Duct Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.4L or Air Cleaner Intake Duct Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.8L.

  3. Remove the automatic transaxle range selector cable from the wiring harness clip or strap.

  5. Remove the automatic transaxle range selector cable retainer.

  7. Remove the automatic transaxle range selector cable from the automatic transaxle range selector lever.
  8. Remove the automatic transaxle range selector cable from the automatic transaxle range selector cable bracket.

  10. If equipped with a floor console, remove the front floor console. Refer to Console Replacement - Front Floor (Impala) or Console Replacement - Front Floor (Monte Carlo) in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
  11. Pull the carpet back to expose the automatic transaxle range selector cable. Refer to Carpet Replacement - Front in Interior Trim.
  12. Remove the automatic transaxle range selector cable retainer from the console shift control.

  14. Remove the automatic transaxle range selector cable from the console shift control.
  15. Remove the automatic transaxle range selector cable from the console shift control bracket.

  17. If equipped with a steering column shift control, remove the left knee bolster bracket. Refer to Knee Bolster Bracket Replacement - Left in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
  18. Remove the automatic transmission range selector cable from the shift control lever.

  20. Install a piece of mechanics wire to the end of the automatic transmission range selector cable.
  21. Remove the automatic transmission range selector cable through the hole in the cowl.
