Instructions For Circuit Tests
- DO NOT run any of the following circuit tests unless directed to do so during the Quick Test. Each circuit test assumes that a fault has already been detected in the circuit. Performing a circuit test without being directed to do so by the Quick Test may result in incorrect results or replacement of good components.
- Correct test results for the Quick Test are dependent on the proper operation of related non-EEC systems and components. It may be necessary to correct any problems in these areas before the vehicle will pass any tests.
- DO NOT replace any parts unless specifically directed to do so by the tests.
- When more than 1 code is displayed, always diagnose and correct problems in the order that codes were displayed.
- DO NOT measure voltage or resistance at the ECA or connect any test lights to it unless otherwise specified.
- Isolate both ends of a circuit and turn key off whenever checks are being made for continuity or short circuits unless directed to do otherwise.
- Disconnect solenoids and switches from the harness before measuring resistance, continuity or applying battery voltage.
- When performing circuit tests, follow steps in proper order until fault is found.
- After completing repairs, make sure that all components are securely reconnected and repeat the Quick Test to verify that problem has been corrected.
- A open circuit is any resistance reading of greater than 5 ohms (unless otherwise specified).
- A short circuit to ground is any resistance reading less than 10,000 ohms to ground (unless otherwise specified).
