Instructions For Circuit Tests

  1. DO NOT  run any of the following circuit tests unless directed to do so during the Quick Test. Each circuit test assumes that a fault has already been detected in the circuit. Performing a circuit test without being directed to do so by the Quick Test may result in incorrect results or replacement of good components.
  2. Correct test results for the Quick Test are dependent on the proper operation of related non-EEC systems and components. It may be necessary to correct any problems in these areas before the vehicle will pass any tests.
  3. DO NOT  replace any parts unless specifically directed to do so by the tests.
  4. When more than 1 code is displayed, always diagnose and correct problems in the order that codes were displayed.
  5. DO NOT  measure voltage or resistance at the ECA or connect any test lights to it unless otherwise specified.
  6. Isolate both ends of a circuit and turn key off whenever checks are being made for continuity or short circuits unless directed to do otherwise.
  7. Disconnect solenoids and switches from the harness before measuring resistance, continuity or applying battery voltage.
  8. When performing circuit tests, follow steps in proper order until fault is found.
  9. After completing repairs, make sure that all components are securely reconnected and repeat the Quick Test to verify that problem has been corrected.
  10. A open circuit is any resistance reading of greater than 5 ohms (unless otherwise specified).
  11. A short circuit to ground is any resistance reading less than 10,000 ohms to ground (unless otherwise specified).
