Spark Advance Test
- With engine running at idle, use a jumper wire to ground ECA connector J2 pin 14 to chassis ground. If engine does not stall, check for open circuit between ECA connector J2 pin 14 and TFI pin 2. If no open circuit is found, problem is in TFI. See IGNITION SYSTEM - TFI-IV article. If engine stalls, proceed with test.
- With engine off, disconnect TFI connector. Start engine and check timing. If timing is not 7-13° BTDC, adjust timing. If timing is 7-13° BTDC, disconnect and inspect ECA connectors for damaged or corroded terminals. Reconnect ECA and retest. If problem still exists, replace ECA.
