Insufficient Map Sensor Dynamic Response (Code 72)

  1. Tee a vacuum gauge into the intake manifold vacuum line to MAP sensor. Perform Engine Running Test while observing vacuum gauge. Record Engine Running service codes. Check to see if vacuum decreased by more than 9 in. Hg during the Dynamic Response Test. Check for code 72. If vacuum changed more than 9 in. Hg and code 72 did not appear during test, disconnect vacuum gauge and service other codes as necessary. If vacuum changed by more than 9 in. Hg and code 72 was displayed, replace MAP sensor and repeat test. If vacuum decrease was 9 in. Hg or less, proceed with test.
  2. Check vacuum lines for proper routing. Check MAP vacuum line for kinks or blockage. If any problems are found, correct as necessary and return to step 1). If no problems are found, fault is not in EEC system, check vacuum source for trouble.
