Steering Column: Description
Steering columns are available in standard and tilt column models. The column has a modular construction. The wiper/washer, turn signal/hazard, horn/dimmer and ignition switch are mounted on the column. Switches can be serviced by removing the shroud.
The steering column is an energy absorbing type which collapses upon impact. A cylindrical impact bumper on the upper bracket is also included to absorb impact loads.
The key release button functions to prevent inadvertent locking of the steering wheel. The ignition switch is operated by a pin mounted on the lock actuator rack and is pinion driven by the key cylinder.
