Timed By-Pass Valve

This is a normally-open valve. During normal operation, vacuum is equalized on both sides of diaphragm. Spring pressure holds valve open, allowing fresh air to the exhaust.

On deceleration, manifold vacuum pulls diaphragm, and air is directed to the atmosphere. Small orifice in diaphragm will allow pressure to quickly equalize again. See Figure .
