Neutral/Drive Switch (1.6L Only)

On 1.6L models with automatic transaxles, the Neutral/Drive switch signals the ECA whether or not the transaxle is in gear. The ECA will adjust idle speed to compensate for increased engine load.

A 5-volt reference voltage between the switch and the ECA indicates vehicle is in "DRIVE" or "REVERSE". No voltage (1 volt or less with switch closed) indicates vehicle is in "NEUTRAL" or "PARK".

A Neutral Forcing Relay is energized in the "START" mode to provide for the no voltage reference signal. The relay is located in the left front corner of engine compartment. Switch is on the right side of the transaxle.
