Fuel Injection Pump: Removal

  1. Remove hood. Remove accessory drive belt and idler pulley. Scribe an alignment mark on injection pump mounting flange and timing gear housing for reassembly reference. Disconnect battery negative cable, accelerator cable, cold start device cable, cruise control cable and fuel cut valve connector. Remove radiator fan and shroud.
  2. Remove fuel injection pipes and fuel hoses from the fuel pump. Remove injection pump drive gear cover. Cap all openings in fuel lines to prevent contamination. Remove injection pump drive gear lock nut and spring washer, taking care not to drop spring washer into timing gear case. If necessary use a steel wire to remove spring washer.
  3. Remove lock plate from the drive gear. Rotate engine until injection pump shaft key groove is facing up. Disconnect air intake hose from air cleaner and intake manifold. Remove injection pump attaching nuts and bolt.
  4. Using injection pump extractor tool (T83T 6306 A) or similar tool, remove injection pump. Take care when withdrawing pump from timing gear case so as not to drop pump shaft key into timing gear case. See Fig 1 .
