Air Throttle Body Assembly
The throttle body assembly controls air flow to the engine through a single butterfly valve. The throttle position is controlled by multiple-link throttle linkage that opens progressively on all vehicles with 2.3L engines. On vehicles with 1.6L engines, it is controlled by a conventional cable/cam throttle linkage. On all models, the body is a single piece die casting made of aluminum. It has a single bore with an air by-pass channel around the throttle plate.
This by-pass channel controls both cold and warm engine idle airflow control as regulated by an air by-pass valve assembly mounted directly to the throttle body. The valve assembly is an electro-mechanical device controlled by the ECA. It incorporates a linear actuator which positions a variable area metering valve.
