Ignition System - TFI: Operation: TFI-I
The operating principals of the TFI-I system are similar to most solid-state ignition systems. An armature rotating inside of a stator switches on voltage to the ignition coil primary. As the armature passes out of the electrical field in the distributor, the current to the primary is turned off and the sudden drop in voltage induces the high secondary voltage which is routed to the distributor.
