Test Procedures

  1. Using voltmeter, check voltage between ground and pins No. 13 and 14 of Green connector, and then at pin No. 13 of Brown connector. If readings are 10 volts or more, go to next step. If not, repair open or short in corresponding circuit(s). If necessary, replace burned out fuses. Repeat QUICK TEST  .
  2. Using ohmmeter, check for continuity to ground between pins No. 5 and 6 of Green connector, and then at pin No. 2 of Brown connector. See KEYLESS ENTRY MODULE CONNECTOR TERMINAL IDENTIFICATION in Fig. Figure of TEST A. If continuity exists, go to next step. If no continuity exists, repair open in corresponding circuit(s) and repeat QUICK TEST  .
  3. Disconnect keypad and Brown connector. Check for continuity between pin No. 1 of Brown connector and ground. If continuity exists, repair short in Light Blue wire and repeat QUICK TEST  . If no continuity exists, go to next step.
  4. Connect keypad, but leave Brown connector disconnected. Check resistance between pin No. 1 of Brown connector and ground. If reading is 10 ohms or less, go to TEST C  . If reading is more than 10 ohms, go to next step.
  5. Disconnect keypad. On Town Car, measure resistance between pins No. 8 and 11 of keypad connector. See KEYPAD CONNECTOR TERMINAL IDENTIFICATION in Fig. Figure of TEST A. On Continental, Mark VII, and Thunderbird, measure resistance between pins No. 3 and 6 of keypad connector. If reading is 10 ohms or more, replace keypad and repeat QUICK TEST  . If reading is less than 10 ohms, go to next step.
  6. Disconnect keypad and Brown connector. Check continuity between pin No. 1 of Brown connector and pin No. 3 (Town Car) or Pin No. 8 (all other models) of keypad harness connector. If no continuity exists, repair Light Blue wire and repeat QUICK TEST  . If continuity exists, go to next step.
  7. Check for continuity between pin No. 6 (Town Car) or Pin No. 11 (all other models) of keypad harness connector and ground. If no continuity exists, repair open in ground circuit wiring and repeat QUICK TEST  . If continuity exists, go to next step.
  8. Using an ohmmeter, check for short between pin No. 12 of Brown connector and ground. If short is found, repair short to ground in Brown wire and repeat QUICK TEST  . If no short is found, go to next step.
  9. Check continuity between pin No. 12 of Brown connector and pin No. 5 (Town Car) or pin No. 10 (all other models) of keypad connector. If continuity exists, replace keyless entry module and repeat QUICK TEST  . If no continuity exists, repair Brown wire and repeat QUICK TEST  .
