Engine Cooling Fan: Operation

The cooling fan can run when ignition switch is in the "RUN" position. Models with automatic transaxle have 2 coolant sensors and 2 relays to energize low or high fan speed. Models with manual transaxle have one coolant sensor and one relay for high speed fan operation only. See Fig 1.

The cooling fan is turned on low speed when coolant temperature reaches 177°F (97°C) or higher. Cooling fan is turned on high speed when coolant temperature reaches 226°F (108°C). Manual transaxle models use one relay and only the high speed value for operation. The auxiliary condenser fan used on A/C equipped models runs continuously while A/C compressor clutch is engaged.

CAUTION: The cooling fan will run if the ignition is on and electrical wire is disconnected from coolant sensor. Ensure ignition is off before disconnecting wiring.
