Retrieving & Clearing Codes

NOTE: Unlike the Ford EEC-IV system, intermittent codes are not erased after 40 vehicle starts. Intermittent codes are stored in memory until they are erased. Service codes for output actuators are not kept in memory and exist only during KOER testing.

Service codes are retrieved from the EEC system through the Self-Test connector by using a scan tool, analog voltmeter or the "Check Engine" light. The KOEO and KOER SELF-TESTS are used for this purpose. After these codes have been recorded or repaired, they may be cleared from the ECA memory.

To clear continuous memory codes, run the KOEO SELF-TEST, deactivate the Self-Test by disconnecting the jumper wire from the STI connector. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable and depress the brake pedal for 5-10 seconds. The STI connector is located at the left rear of the engine compartment.
