NOTE: Enter this test only when Code 88 is received in QUICK TEST PROCEDURE. This test is intended to diagnose only the following: ECA and harness circuits (STO, SML, STI, and VPWR.)
  1. Checking System Integrity  - Visually check all wiring, harnesses, connectors and components for evidence of damage, overheating, shorting or looseness. If a fault is found, repair as necessary. If no faults are found, go to next step.
  2. Checking STI Voltage At ECA  - Install breakout box. Set VOM on 20-volt scale. With KOEO, measure voltage between test pins No. 48 and 20 (ground). If voltage is less than 10 volts, go to next step. If not, go to step 6).
  3. Checking STI Continuity To ECA  - Install breakout box, leaving ECA disconnected. Set VOM on 200-ohm scale. With key off, measure resistance between test pin No. 48 and "R/W" wire at STI connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If not, repair "R/W" wire between ECA and STI connector.
  4. Checking STI For Short To Ground  - Install breakout box, leaving ECA disconnected. Set VOM on 200k-ohm scale. With key off, measure resistance between test pin No. 48 and test pins No. 20, 40 and 49. If any readings are greater than 10k ohms, go to next step. If not, repair short to ground.
  5. Checking STI For Short To VPWR  - Install breakout box, leaving ECA disconnected. Set VOM on 20-volt scale. With KOEO, measure voltage between test pins No. 48 and 20 (ground). If voltage is greater than zero volts, repair short to VPWR. If voltage is zero volts, go to next step.
  6. Checking STO Voltage At ECA  - Install breakout box. Jump STI connector to ground. Set VOM on 20-volt scale. Turn key on with engine off, and wait 10 seconds. Measure voltage between test pins No. 17 and 20 (ground). If voltage is less than 10 volts, go to next step. If not, go to step 10).
  7. Checking For Continuity To ECA  - Install breakout box, leaving ECA disconnected. Set VOM on 200-ohm scale. Ensure key is off. Measure resistance between test pin No. 17 and "LG/BK" wire at STO connector. If VOM reading is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If not, repair "LG/BK" wire between ECA and STO connector.
  8. Checking STO For Short to Ground  - Install breakout box, leaving ECA disconnected. Set VOM on 200k-ohm scale. With key off, measure resistance between test pin No. 17 and test pins No. 20, 40 and 49. If any readings are greater than 10k ohms, go to next step. If not, repair short to ground.
  9. Checking STO For Short To VPWR  - Install breakout box, leaving ECA disconnected. Set VOM on 20-volt scale. With KOEO, measure voltage between test pins No. 17 and 20 (ground). If voltage is greater than zero volts, repair short to VPWR. If not, go to next step.
  10. Checking SML Voltage At ECA  - Install breakout box. Jump STI connector to ground. Set VOM on 20-volt scale. Turn key on, with engine off, and wait 10 seconds. Measure voltage between test pins No. 38 and 20 (ground). If voltage is less than 10 volts, go to next step. If not, go to step 14).
  11. Checking SML Continuity To ECA  - Install breakout box, leaving ECA disconnected. Set VOM on 200-ohm scale. Ensure key is off. Measure resistance between test pin No. 38 and "W/Y" wire at STO connector. If VOM reading is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If not, repair "W/Y" wire between ECA and STO connector.
  12. Checking SML For Short To Ground  - Install breakout box, leaving ECA disconnected. Set VOM on 200k-ohm scale. With key off, measure resistance between test pin No. 38 and test pins No. 20, 40 and 49. If any readings are greater than 10k ohms, go to next step. If not, repair short to ground.
  13. Checking SML For Short To VPWR  - Install breakout box, leaving ECA disconnected. Set VOM on 20-volt scale. With KOEO, measure voltage between test pins No. 38 and 20 (ground). If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair short to VPWR. If not, go to step 14).
  14. Checking Voltage At STO Connector  - Set VOM on 20-volt scale. With KOEO, measure voltage between "R/BK" wire at STO connector and ground. If voltage is less than 10 volts, go to next step. If not, go to CIRCUIT TEST A2  , step 1).
  15. Checking Voltage From Power Relay  - DO NOT  pierce wire during test. Ensure power relay No. 2 is connected. Set VOM on 20-volt scale. With KOEO, measure voltage between "R/BK" wire at power relay No. 2 and ground. If voltage reading is less than 10 volts, go to CIRCUIT TEST B12  , step 1). If voltage reading is greater than 10 volts, repair "R/BK" wire between STO connecter and power relay No. 2.
