Steering Column: Description

Fixed columns as standard equipment on most vehicles with tilt columns optional. The exception is the Continental, which come with a tilt column as standard equipment. Floor shift columns, both fixed and tilt, are identical to column shift columns. The only difference is the external shift mechanism and the addition of a key release button.

A multi-function switch, which incorporates turn signal, windshield wiper/washer, dimmer and flash-to-pass switch functions into one is on most columns.

This article will cover REMOVAL & INSTALLATION of steering columns, upper shaft bearings and lock cylinder housing. Complete tilt column overhaul procedures are not available. Overhaul procedure for Probe steering column is not available.
