5.8L Engine

  1. Turn crankshaft damper so that No. 1 piston is at TDC on compression stroke. Make 2 chalk marks on crankshaft damper. The first, 180 degrees from timing mark. The second, 90 degrees from first chalk mark. Use Lifter Bleed Down Wrench (T70P-6513-A) to bleed down each lifter until the plunger bottoms. Valve clearance is .098-.198" (2.4-5 mm). In this position, check the following valves:
    • No. 1 Intake and No. 1 Exhaust
    • No. 4 Intake and No. 3 Exhaust
    • No. 8 Intake and No. 7 Exhaust
  2. Rotate crankshaft 180 degrees in direction of engine rotation to first chalk mark and check the following valves:
    • No. 3 Intake and No. 2 Exhaust
    • No. 7 Intake and No. 6 Exhaust
  3. Rotate crankshaft 90 degrees in direction of engine rotation to second chalk mark and check the following valves:
    • No. 2 Intake and No. 4 Exhaust
    • No. 5 Intake and No. 5 Exhaust
    • No. 6 Intake and No. 8 Exhaust
