Test DA: Step 4
4) Check Resistance of Temperature Sensor With Engine Running If engine has cooled down, warm engine before measuring ECT sensor resistance. Check for an open thermostat. Turn key off and wait 10 seconds. Disconnect suspect sensor. Set DVOM on 200-k/ohm scale. Measure resistance between sensor signal circuit and SIG RTN circuit at temperature sensor. Refer to charts at the beginning of this Pinpoint Test for resistance specifications. If resistance is within specification, replace ECA, reconnect components and repeat QUICK TEST. If sensor is not within specifications, do the following:
- ACT sensor; check heat stove duct valve operation. If okay, replace ACT sensor, reconnect components and repeat QUICK TEST.
- ECT sensor; replace ECT sensor, reconnect vehicle harness and rerun QUICK TEST.
NOTE:
There is a break in the step numbering sequence at this point, skipping from step 4) to step 10). Break is due to previous chart references to these testing procedures. No test procedures have been omitted.
