Ignition Coil Resistance Test

  1. Inspect coil for signs of arcing or leakage. Remove primary and secondary leads from ignition coil. Using ohmmeter, check primary resistance between (positive) and (negative) terminals of coil. See Fig 1 .
  2. Check secondary resistance between (positive) terminal and coil tower. See IGNITION COIL RESISTANCE  . If resistance is okay, check insulation by measuring resistance between case and primary positive terminal. Ohmmeter should read infinite. Replace coil if readings are not within specifications.
