Shift Indicator Cable Adjustments: Continental

  1. Remove tilt lever. See Fig 1. Remove lock cylinder. See LOCK CYLINDER (FUNCTIONAL)  or LOCK CYLINDER (NON-FUNCTIONAL)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Remove upper and lower shrouds.
  2. Place shift lever in OVERDRIVE position. Hang a weight of 8 lbs. (3.5 kg.) on shift lever to ensure lever is firmly located against overdrive detent.
  3. Adjust shift indicator cable until shift indicator pointer is aligned with OVERDRIVE symbol on shift indicator.
  4. Tighten screw securing shift indicator cable to column housing. Cycle shift lever through all shift positions to verify adjustment. Install upper and lower shrouds, lock cylinder and tilt lever.
