Amperage Output Test

  1. Connect ammeter in series with positive battery cable. Connect voltmeter negative lead to negative battery post and positive lead to positive battery post.
  2. Turn on all electrical accessories. Start engine and accelerate to 2500-3000 RPM. If alternator amperage output is 45 amps or more, alternator is functioning properly. If amperage output is less than 45 amps, proceed to VOLTAGE OUTPUT TEST.
