Check Eng/Service Eng Soon Malfunction Indicator Light (Mil)
The light is intended to alert the driver of certain malfunctions in the EEC-IV system. See MALFUNCTION INDICATOR APPLICATION .
The light may also be used to retrieve service codes stored in ECA. When hooked-up for KOEO or KOER Self-Test, the light will retrieve all codes, not just Continuous Memory Codes which turn the light on during vehicle operation.
If the light comes on during vehicle operation, it should be serviced and inspected as soon as possible. It is not necessary to immediately turn off the vehicle or have it towed to a service facility.
If the light comes on and then goes off while in operation, the code that caused the light to illuminate will be stored in ECA memory as a Continuous Memory Code.
The light should come on when the ignition is turned on and go out when the engine is started. The ECA turns out the light when the ECA receives an ignition PIP signal, if hard fault codes are not present.
If the light never comes on, see SYMPTOMS in H - "Engine Type" TESTS W/O CODES article.
