System Check

  1. System check method requires Super Star II Tester (007-00028 or 007-00041), Breakout Box (T83L-50-EEC-IV), Adapter (T87P-50-ALA) and a digital multimeter. Turn ignition off. Open luggage compartment. On Cougar and Thunderbird, remove lower right side quarter panel. On Mark VII, remove panel from seat rear. On all models, connect Super Star II Tester to test plug, near ECM.
  2. Turn on tester power switch. ":00" should appear on tester. This indicates tester is ready to retrieve test codes. If LO BAT appears, replace 9-volt tester battery. Push SELF-TEST button. A colon ( : ) should appear. Tester is ready to obtain codes. Pressing button a second time will deactivate internal test sequence allowing tester to retrieve trouble codes.
