Test QB, Code 15 - KOEO Or Continuous Memory Code
Perform this test when directed by other test procedures. This test is intended to diagnose only the following components or systems:
- ECA
- Harness circuits (PWR GND, VPWR, KAPWR, IGNITION)TEST PIN WIRE COLOR IDENTIFICATION
Application (Test Pin No.) Wire Color Pin 1 (KAPWR) 5.0L MA PFI (Mustang) Black/Orange 5.0L PFI (Town Car) Yellow/Black All Others Yellow Pin 40 or 60 (PWR GND) All Models Black/Light Green Pin 37 or 57 (VPWR) All Models Red
- 1) Continuous Memory Code 15 Displayed -
Clear Continuous Memory Codes using procedure described in this article. Repeat KOEO Self-Test through Continuous Memory Code output. If Continuous Memory Code 15 is not displayed, Continuous Memory Code 15 testing is complete. Service other codes as necessary. If Continuous Memory Code 15 is displayed during retest, go to next step.NOTE: Continuous Memory Code 15 may be displayed when power to Keep Alive Memory (KAM) Test Pin No. 1 at ECA is interrupted. This code may be set when installing a breakout box and displayed the first time Self-Test is performed and power is restored to ECA. Repeat Self-Test to ensure correct diagnosis.
- 2) Inspect Engine Compartment Wire Routing - Ensure that EEC-IV components and wiring are not close to high tension secondary voltage wires or ignition components. If EEC-IV wiring is close to high tension wires, reroute EEC wiring. Repeat KOEO Self-Test. If Continuous Memory Code 15 is no longer displayed, Continuous Memory Code 15 testing is complete, service other codes as necessary. If Continuous Memory Code 15 is still displayed, go to next step.
- 3) Check KAPWR Circuit Voltage - Turn key off and wait 10 seconds. Disconnect ECA 60-pin connector and inspect for damaged pins and loose wires. Service as necessary. Install breakout box, leaving ECA disconnected. Set DVOM on 20-volt scale. Connect DVOM positive test lead to Test Pin No. 1 and negative test lead to pins No. 40 or 60 at the breakout box. With KOEO, observe voltage reading. If reading is less than 10.5 volts, repair open circuit. Reconnect ECA and repeat QUICK TEST. If reading is 10.5 volts or more, replace ECA and remove breakout box. Repeat QUICK TEST.
