KOEO Self-Test
Start engine and allow to idle until vehicle reaches operating temperature. If engine does not start or stalls after starting, continue KOEO SELF-TEST. DO NOT depress throttle on gasoline-engine vehicles. Turn ignition off and wait 10 seconds. Activate self-test procedure by using a jumper wire or appropriate test equipment. Turn ignition on, leaving engine off. Record all KOEO and Continuous Memory Codes.
If a Code 11 or 111 (pass code) is not received in the KOEO portion of test, service the KOEO codes. See appropriate chart under CODE-TO-TEST MENU(S). If the ECA will not output codes, go to TEST QA, step 1). If codes are received, check the following procedures:
- If "CHECK ENGINE" or "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" light is on when vehicle arrived for service, use recorded Continuous Memory Codes and appropriate chart under CODE-TO-TEST MENU(S) before addressing any other symptoms.
- If engine runs or idles rough, go to TEST S step 2). On vehicles with DIS or EDIS, use recorded Continuous Memory Codes and appropriate chart under CODE-TO-TEST MENU(S).
- Perform only the following. If Continuous Memory Codes 45, 46, 48, 215, 216, 217, 232 or 238 are received during KOEO SELF-TEST, see appropriate system test in SYSTEM/COMPONENT TESTS article. If Codes 45, 46, 48, 215, 216, 217, 232 or 238 were not received, go to TEST S, step 2).
- On all vehicles, except vehicles with EDIS, if vehicle has a no-start condition, go to TEST A, step 1). On vehicles with EDIS, go to TEST AA, step 1).
- If vehicle displays a Code 11 or 111 (pass code) and does not have any of the symptoms described in previous steps, go to COMPUTED TIMING CHECK.
