Turbocharger (2.2L): Removal

  1. Before removing turbocharger, clean area surrounding turbocharger using a non-caustic cleaner. Disconnect negative battery cable. Drain cooling system.
  2. Disconnect turbocharger outlet hose. Remove heat shields from exhaust manifold and turbocharger assembly. Disconnect exhaust gas oxygen sensor electrical connector (if necessary).
  3. Disconnect oil feed and return lines from turbocharger. See Fig 1 . Disconnect coolant inlet and outlet hoses from turbocharger. Remove EGR tube from exhaust manifold.
  4. Disconnect air tube and electrical connector from boost control solenoid. Remove mounting bolt from turbocharger retaining bracket, located under turbocharger. Discharge A/C system using approved refrigerant recovery/recycling equipment. Remove refrigerant line from A/C compressor. Remove exhaust gas oxygen sensor.
  5. Remove converter inlet pipe from turbocharger joint pipe. Remove exhaust manifold and turbocharger as an assembly. Separate exhaust manifold, turbocharger-to-converter inlet pipe, joint pipe and heat shield assembly from turbocharger.
