Power Window Diagnosis
- Turn ignition key to the ON position. Check the operation of the driver's and passenger's power window switches. If both windows are not working, go to next step. If only driver's window is not working, go to step 5 . If only passenger window is not working, go to step 7 .
- Check the 30 amp power window fuse in the interior fuse panel. Is the fuse okay? If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is blown, replace fuse and follow note.
- Turn the ignition key to the ON position. Check for 12 volts (+/-1 volt) on (Black/Red) wire at the driver's power window switch. See Figure . Are there 12 volts? If yes, go to next step. If no, repair (Black/Red) wire between interior fuse panel and driver's power window switch.
- Turn ignition key to the OFF position. Check for continuity between ground and the (Black) wire at the driver's power window switch. See Figure . Is there continuity? If yes, replace driver's power window switch. If no, repair (Black) wire between driver's power window switch and ground.
- Disconnect the driver's power window motor. Apply 12 volts (+/-1 volt) and ground directly to the motor for two seconds. See Figure . Reverse the polarity for two seconds. Reverse the polarity again for two seconds. Does the motor operate in both directions? If yes, go to next step. If no, replace driver's power window motor/regulator assembly. See GLASS & REGULATOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Turn the ignition key to the OFF position. Check for continuity in both the (Green/Blue) wire and (Red/Blue) wire between the driver's power window switch and the driver's power window motor. See Figure and Figure . If there is no continuity between (Green/Blue) wire, repair (Green/Blue) wire between driver's power window switch and driver's power window motor. If there is no continuity between (Red/Blue) wire, repair Red/Blue wire between driver's power window switch and driver's power window motor. If there is continuity in both the (Green/Blue) and (Red/Blue) wires, replace driver's power window switch.
- Disconnect the passenger's power window switch. Apply 12 volts (+/-1 volt) to the (Green/White) wire and ground to (Red/White) wire of the passenger power window switch for two seconds. See Figure . Reverse the polarity for two seconds. Reverse the polarity again for two seconds. Does the motor operate in both directions? If yes, go to step 10 . If no, go to next step.
- Disconnect the passenger window motor. Apply 12 volts (+/-1 volt) and ground directly to the motor for two seconds. See Figure . Reverse the polarity for two seconds. Reverse the polarity again for two seconds. Does the motor operate in both directions? If yes, go to next step. If no, replace passenger's power window motor regulator assembly. See GLASS & REGULATOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Turn the ignition key to the OFF position. Check for continuity in both the Green/White and the Red/White wires between the passenger's power window switch and the passenger's power window motor. See Figure and Figure . If there is no continuity in the either or both wires, repair wire(s) between passenger's power window switch and passenger's power window motor. If there is continuity in both the wires, replace passenger's power window switch.
- Turn the ignition key to the OFF position. Check for continuity in both the (Green/White) and the (Red/White) wires between the driver's power window switch and the passenger's power window switch. See Figure and Figure . If there is no continuity in the (Green/White) wire, repair (Green/White) wire between power window switches. If there is no continuity in the (Red/White) wire, repair (Red/White) wire between power window switches.
- Verify that the passenger window lock switch is not depressed. Turn the ignition key to the ON position. Check for 12 volts (+/-1 volt) on the (Black/Blue) wire at the passenger's power window switch. See Figure . Are there 12 volts? If yes, replace passenger's power window switch. If no, go to next step.
- Verify that the passenger window lock switch is not depressed. Turn the ignition key to the ON position. Check for 12 volts (+/-1 volt) on the (Black/Blue) wire at the driver's power window switch. See Figure . Are there 12 volts? If yes, repair (Black/Blue) wire between passenger's power window switch and driver's power window switch. If no, replace driver's power window switch.
NOTE:
If the fuse blows again check for shorts to ground in the (Black/Red) wire at the driver's power window switch connector. See Figure
. Repair the (Black/Red) wire as needed.
