Ignition Timing: 2.3L

NOTE: Ignition timing is not adjustable on models with DIS.
  1. Ensure vehicle is at operating temperature, all accessories are off, and transmission is in Park or Neutral. Set parking brake. Ensure idle speed is correct.
  2. Connect timing light to No. 1 spark plug wire. Disconnect single in-line Spark Output (SPOUT) connector, located near distributor in harness to TFI module. Start engine.
  3. With engine at idle RPM, check ignition timing. See 4-CYLINDER BASE IGNITION TIMING  for specifications. Turn engine off. Reconnect single in-line Spark Output (SPOUT) connector. Check computed ignition timing. Computed ignition timing should be advanced beyond base timing.

(1) STI terminal grounded.
(2) SPOUT in-line connector disconnected.
