Pre-Test Instructions
Perform PINPOINT TESTS only after completing VISUAL INSPECTION, KEY ON, ENGINE RUNNING TEST and CONTINUOUS MONITOR TEST.
- Each PINPOINT TEST assumes a fault has been detected. Failure to comply with correct testing order can result in error.
- Test results depend on proper operation of related parts. Correct any defects in this area before passing pinpoint test.
- DO NOT replace parts unless test results indicate it.
- When one or more service codes are shown, start with first code received.
- DO NOT measure voltage or resistance at control module or connect any test lights unless specified.
- Isolate both ends of a circuit and turn ignition off whenever checking for shorts or continuity, unless specified.
- Disconnect solenoids and switches from harness before measuring for continuity, resistance or energizing with 12-volt source.
- In using pinpoint test, follow each step in order, starting from first step in appropriate test. Follow each step until fault is found.
- Unless otherwise specified, an open is defined as any resistance reading greater than 5 ohms.
- Unless otherwise specified, a short is defined as any resistance reading less than 10 k/ohms (10,000 ohms) to ground.

CAUTION:
When battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES
article before disconnecting battery.
