Alternator: Service and Repair

Removal
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the RH halfshaft.

3. Disconnect the wiring terminals from the back of the alternator. The stator and the field wiring terminals are push-on type. After depressing the lock tab, the push-on type terminal should be pulled straight off to prevent damage.
4. Loosen the alternator adjustment and the through bolts enough to allow
the alternator to pivot. Remove the alternator drive belt.

5. Remove the alternator adjustment bracket, lock bolt and the through bolt.

6. Hold the alternator to prevent it from falling and remove it through the space left by removing the halfshaft.

Installation
To install, reverse the removal procedure.

NOTE: Tighten the alternator adjustment jack screw until the total drive belt deflection is as specified with a force of 98N (221b).

New Belt: 6-8mm (0.24-0.31 inch)
Used Belt: 7-9mm (0.27-0.35 inch)

Tighten the through bolt to 37-52 Nm (27-38 lb-ft) and the alternator adjusting bracket bolt to 19-25 Nm (14-19 lb-ft).

NOTE: Check the transaxle fluid level. Add fluid if necessary.
