Manual Lever Position Switch (MLP)

Manual Lever Position (MLP) Switch (Neutral Safety Switch) (ATX Only):

PURPOSE
The Manual Lever Position (MLP) switch detects shift lever position and sends a signal to the ECA and 4EAT Control Module. The ECA uses the MLP signal to modify air/fuel ratio, idle speed, EGR flow, and ignition timing. The MLP also incorporates a neutral safety switch which enables the starting system.

LOCATION
On automatic transaxle at shift lever.

OPERATION
The switch is rotated in relation to movements of the vehicle gear selector mechanism, signaling the ECA as to position selected (P, R, N, D, L).
