Oxygen Sensor: Service and Repair

REMOVAL




1. Locate Heated Exhaust Gas Oxygen (HEGO) sensor located in the exhaust manifold.
2. Disconnect the electrical connector from sensor.

CAUTION: Excessive force may damage threads in exhaust manifold or pipe.

3. Remove sensor by unscrewing counterclockwise. The oxygen sensor may be difficult to remove when engine temperature is below 120°F.



INSTALLATION

1. If a new sensor is being used, install the new sensor into the manifold.
2. If an old sensor is being reused, coat threads with anti-seize compound, then install the HEGO sensor in the exhaust manifold.
3. Tighten the sensor to 30 ft lb (41 Nm).
4. Connect the electrical connector to sensor.
