ISSUE
The air bag light may come on and the module display service code 34 because the connector insertion bar is damaged or bent. The air bag system is equipped with a shorting bar in connector C257. This mechanism prevents the air bag module from deploying while service work is being performed. The insertion bar opens the shorting bar when the connector is together to activate the system. The insertion bar may become damaged or bent during the assembly or re-assembly process.
ACTION
Check the C257 connector in the steering column for a bent or damaged insertion bar. See Fig 1 . If it is damaged, install a new combination switch assembly which includes the C257 connector.
