Panic Alarm
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 8 other vehicles, including the 1993 Mercury Sable, 1993 Mercury Grand Marquis, 1993 Mercury Cougar, 1993 Lincoln Mark VIII, and 1993 Lincoln Continental. - Turn parking lights on. If parking lights come on, go to next step. If parking lights do not come on, go to step 5). If parking lights are always on, go to step 7).
- Disconnect control module connector J1. Check for continuity of Brown wire (White/Purple wire on Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis and Mark VIII) between pin No. 24 of connector J1 and fuse No. 15. If continuity exists, go to next step. If no continuity exists, repair Brown wire (White/Purple wire on Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis and Mark VIII).
- Disconnect control module connector J1. Check for continuity of Tan/White wire (Orange wire on Mark VIII) between pin No. 13 of connector J1 and fuse No. 4. If continuity exists, go to next step. If no continuity exists, repair Tan/White wire (Orange wire on Mark VIII).
- Disconnect control module connector J1. Measure voltage between pin 13 of connector J1 and ground. If reading is 10 volts or greater, replace control module. If reading is less than 10 volts, repair open or short in Tan/White wire (Orange wire on Mark VIII).
- Check parking light and automatic headlight relay. Replace relay as necessary. If relay is okay, go to next step.
- Check fuse No. 4. Replace as necessary. If fuse is okay, repair open or short in Brown wire (White/Purple wire on Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis and Mark VIII).
- Disconnect control module connector J1. If parking lights shut off, replace control module. If parking lights shut off, go to next step.
- Disconnect headlight switch and control module connectors. If parking lights shut off, replace headlight switch. If parking lights do not shut off, repair short to battery in Brown wire (White/Purple wire on Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis and Mark VIII) or repair auto headlight circuit.
- Press horn switch. If horn sounds, go to next step. If horn does not sound, go to step 10). If horn is always on, go to step 13).
- Disconnect control module connector J1. Check for continuity of Yellow/Light Green wire between pin No. 26 of connector J1 and anti-theft module.
- Check fuse No. 10 and replace as necessary. If fuse is okay, repair open or short in Yellow/Light Green wire circuit.
- Disconnect control module connector J1. If horn shuts off, replace control module. If horn does not shut off, go to next step.
- Disconnect horn switch and module connector J1. If horn shuts off, replace horn switch. If horn does not shut off, repair short to ground in Yellow/Light Green wire or repair horn relay circuit.
- When alarm activates falsely, turn ignition on. If alarm continues to sound, see ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM article in the ACCESSORIES/SAFETY EQUIPMENT section if alarm shuts off, replace control module.
