Throttle Position (TP) Sensor: 2.5L

  1. Turn ignition off. Remove TP sensor connector. Install a 0.006" (.15 mm) feeler gauge between throttle plate stop screw and throttle lever. See Figure .
  2. Connect ohmmeter leads to terminals IDL and GND. See Fig 1 . Loosen TP sensor mounting screws. Continuity should be present. Install a 0.020" (.50 mm) feeler gauge between throttle plate stop screw and throttle lever. Continuity should not be present. If continuity is not as specified, go to next step.
  3. Install Breakout Box (014-00322) and Adapter (T92C-6000-AH) between Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and PCM wiring harness connector. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between breakout box test pin No. 47 and ground.
  4. With throttle valve closed, voltage should be 0.1-1.0 volt. With throttle valve fully open, voltage should be 3.1-4.4 volts. If voltage is not as specified, loosen TP sensor mounting bolts.
  5. Rotate TP sensor until voltmeter reads 0.1-1.0 volt with throttle valve fully closed and 3.1-4.4 volts with throttle valve fully open. Replace TP sensor if specified voltages cannot be obtained.
