Technician Safety Information

NOTES:

^ Always wear appropriate eye protection.

^ Disconnect negative battery cable before starting any service work.

^ To prevent burns, use caution when working near catalytic converters. Catalytic converter temperatures can exceed 1000°F.

IGNITION SYSTEMS
^ Ignition systems present a shock hazard, exercise care when performing spark test and always use non-conductive ignition wire pliers.

FUEL SYSTEM
NOTE: When servicing the fuel system use the following precautions:

^ Set up a "CAUTION: FLAMMABLE" sign in the workshop area.

^ Be sure shop is equipped with the proper fire extinguisher.

NOTE: If available, use system bleed valve (schrader) to relieve pressure.

^ Place a suitable container under connection to be opened.

^ Place a shop cloth over fittings to be disconnected. This will catch any pressurized spray when the lines are opened.

^ Slowly open connection, allow pressure to escape, and catch spilled fuel in container.

^ After disconnecting line(s) or hose(s), plug all fittings.

^ Put any drained fuel in an explosive-proof container with a secure fitting lid, labeled "Gasoline".
