Pinpoint Test CMP - Camshaft Position Sensor
| Circuit | PCM Pin | BOB Pin | Wire Color |
|---|---|---|---|
| CMP | 2G | 24 | GRN/RED |
| GND | 2C | 16 | BLK/LT GRN |
| VPWR | 1B | 37,57 | YEL/WHT |
1) Turn ignition off. Install BOB. Reconnect PCM. Measure voltage at BOB test pin 24 while bumping starter. If voltage does not alternate between about zero and 5 volts, go to next step. If voltage alternates as specified, CMP circuit is okay. Return to QUICK TESTS if sent here from there; otherwise temporarily substitute known good PCM and repeat test to check for improvement.
2) Turn ignition off. Unplug 6-pin distributor connector. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage on VPWR (Yellow/White) wire at harness connector. If voltage is greater than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is not greater than 10 volts, repair VPWR wire to distributor.
3) Turn ignition off. Measure resistance between GND (Black/Lt. Green) wire at harness connector and ground. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not less than 5 ohms, repair Black/Lt. Green wire to ground.
4) Turn ignition off. Install BOB, leaving PCM disconnected. Measure resistance between BOB test pin 24 and CMP wire (Green/Red) at harness connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not less than 5 ohms, repair Green/Red wire.
5) Turn ignition off. Install BOB, leaving PCM disconnected. Measure resistance between BOB test pin 24 and ground. Measure resistance between CMP (Green/Red) wire and each other wire at harness connector. If all measurements are greater than 10,000 ohms, replace distributor. If any measurement is not greater than 10,000 ohms, repair wire in question.
