Pinpoint Test VSS - Vehicle Speed Sensor

NOTE: Enter this test only when Code 06 is displayed during QUICK TESTS procedure or when directed here from another PINPOINT TEST.

VSS CIRCUIT PIN IDENTIFICATION

VSS 1M 21 GRN/RED

1)  Turn ignition off. Install BOB. Disconnect speedometer cable at transaxle. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage at BOB test pin 21 while rotating speedometer cable. If voltage does not cycle between zero and 5 volts, go to next step. If voltage cycles as specified, VSS circuit is okay; return to diagnostic routine.

2)  Turn ignition off. Unplug PCM connectors. Unplug 14-pin instrument cluster connector. Measure resistance of VSS wire (Green/Red) wire between BOB test pin 21 and instrument cluster harness connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, repair open VSS wire.

3)  Measure resistance of VSS wire (Green/Red) wire between BOB test pin 21 and ground. If resistance is not greater than 10,000 ohms, repair shorted VSS wire. If resistance is as specified, measure voltage at BOB test pin 21. If voltage is not zero, service VSS.
