Anti-Lock Brake System: Description
NOTE:
For more information on brake system, see the BRAKE SYSTEM
article.
CAUTION:
See the ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
article in the GENERAL INFORMATION section.
The Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) allows the driver to stop vehicle in the shortest distance while maintaining steering control. The 4-wheel ABS system prevents wheel lock-up by modulating the brake pressure at each wheel independently during an emergency stop. System consists of a master cylinder/booster assembly, ABS control module, Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU), electric pump/motor, brakelight switch, 4 wheel speed sensors and 2 warning lights (ABS and BRAKE). Some models may be equipped with optional Traction Control System (TCS). TCS works with ABS to control rear wheel spin when vehicle is accelerating on slippery or loose surfaces.
