Pinpoint Test B - Single Power Window Inoperative

  1. Determine Inoperative Window  - Turn ignition on. Operate all power window switches in all positions. If right front window fails to operate, go to step 6). If any other window fails to operate, go to next step.
  2. Inoperative Window Power Supply Check  - Remove left power window switch. Using a test light, backprobe appropriate wire while actuating power window switch in corresponding positions. See the POWER WINDOW MOTOR CIRCUIT IDENTIFICATION  table. If test light comes on at appropriate switch positions, go to next step. If test light does not come on at appropriate switch positions, replace left power window switch. Retest system.

Left Rear Window Down Yellow/Light Blue
    Left Rear Window Up Gray/Orange
    Right Rear Window Down Yellow/Black
    Right Rear Window Up Red/Black
NOTE: Right front power window tests begin at step 6)
  3. Inoperative Power Window Motor Circuit Check  - Access inoperative power window motor. Unplug motor harness connector. Using a test light, check appropriate terminal while actuating power window switch in proper positions. See POWER WINDOW MOTOR CIRCUIT IDENTIFICATION  table. If test light does not come on at appropriate switch positions, go to next step. If test light comes on at appropriate switch positions, go to step 5).
NOTE: Right front power window tests begin at step 6)
  4. Circuit Continuity Check  - Unplug connector from driver's power window switch. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance of suspect circuit between harness connector and driver's door power window switch connector. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in suspect wire(s). Retest system.
  5. Power Window Motor Test  - Connect one end of a jumper wire to a power window motor connector terminal. Connect the other end to battery voltage. Connect one end of a second jumper wire to the other power window motor connector terminal. Connect the remaining end to ground. Observe motor operation. Reverse jumper wire connections. Motor should operate in reverse direction. If motor operates as specified, power window is okay. If motor does not operate as specified, replace power window motor. Retest system.
  6. Inoperative Passenger's Power Window Check  - Remove suspect power window switch. See POWER WINDOW SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Using a test light, backprobe appropriate wire at motor connector. Refer to, in this article, PASSENGER'S POWER WINDOW CIRCUIT IDENTIFICATION  table. Actuate suspect power window switch for downward operation. Move test light appropriate terminal for reverse operation of suspect power window at motor connector. Refer to, in this article, PASSENGER'S POWER WINDOW CIRCUIT IDENTIFICATION  table. Actuate suspect power window switch for upward operation. If test light does not come on under both conditions, go to next step. If test light comes on under both conditions, go to step 8).

  7. Power Window Lock/Unlock Switch Check  - Access driver's power window switch. Actuate power window lock/unlock switch to the UNLOCK position. Check Red/Light Blue wire for voltage at power window switch connector. If 10 volts or greater exists, go to next step. If less than 10 volts exist, repair open in Red/Light Blue wire. Retest system.
  8. Power Window Down Circuit Check  - Using a test light, backprobe appropriate wire at driver's power window switch connector. See POWER WINDOW DOWN CIRCUIT IDENTIFICATION  table. Actuate right front power window switch for down operation. If test light comes on, go to next step. If test light does not come on, driver's power window switch. Retest system.
