Quick Test

  1. Ensure master cylinder reservoir is full and there are no leaks in hydraulic system. Inspect wheel sensors for damage. Inspect brakelines for damage. Inspect wheel bearings for looseness or damage. Ensure 15-amp STOP LAMP (No. 9), 10-amp ABS (No. 7) and 10-amp METER (No. 15) fuses, located in instrument panel fuse block, are okay. Ensure 60-amp ABS fusible link, located in engine compartment fuse block, is okay. Check for damage to wiring harness. Check for loose or corroded connectors. If all components are okay, go to next step. If all components are not okay, make necessary repairs and go to next step.
  2. Apply parking brake. Place shift selector in PARK position. Block drive wheels. Turn all electrical loads off (radio, lamps, A/C, blower fans, etc.). Personal safety and correct diagnosis depend on completion of this step. If this step cannot be completed, DO NOT continue with QUICK TEST. If this step can be completed, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition on. Observe ANTI-LOCK warning light. If ANTI-LOCK warning light turns on for a few seconds or stays on, go to next step. If ANTI-LOCK warning light is off, go to PINPOINT TEST E  .
NOTE: Certain DTCs require vehicle to be driven in order for warning light to turn on. Other DTCs will turn warning light on each time engine is started.
  4. Start engine. Drive vehicle if necessary. Observe ANTI-LOCK warning light. If ANTI-LOCK warning light is on, a hard fault is present. Go to next step. If ANTI-LOCK warning light is off, system is operating normally at this time. If ABS symptom exists, fault may be intermittent. Go to next step. If no symptom exists, ABS is operating normally. Check non-ABS portion of brake system for possible cause of problem.
NOTE: DTCs will begin to flash immediately without introduction and flash only once. Ignition switch cycling (off/on) will repeat DTCs if numbers are missed.
  5. Retrieve diagnostic trouble codes. See RETRIEVING TROUBLE CODES  . Record all DTCs. Perform pinpoint test specified for first DTC retrieved. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) IDENTIFICATION  table. If ANTI-LOCK warning light does not flash, go to PINPOINT TEST E  . After all codes have been retrieved and faults have been corrected, clear trouble codes. See CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTC)  .
