SELF TEST DIAGNOSTICS - ONLY SELF TEST DIAGNOSTICS CAN BE PERFORMED USING NEW GENERATION STAR TESTER (NGS) OR SBDS - MISSING DATA LINK CONNECTOR PINS - VEHICLES WITH CD4E TRANSAXLES BUILT FROM 12/6/94 THROUGH 3/16/95

APPLICATION

Model(s): Ford: 1995 Probe

ISSUE

On vehicles with CD4E transaxles, only Self Test Diagnostics can be performed using NGS or SBDS. This is due to missing Data Link Connector (DLC) pins. The missing DLC pins were reinstated into production on 3/16/95.

ACTION

Construct a set of jumper wires that will enable full EEC-IV diagnostic routines to be followed using NGS and SBDS. Refer to the following SERVICE PROCEDURE for details.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

  1. Obtain two (2) pieces of 20-gauge wire (approximately 12' (3.7 m) long.
  2. On one (1) end of each wire, attach an A5 male pin connector from the Ford Wire Harness Terminal Repair Kit, Box 1. Refer to Fig 1 .

  3. On the other end of each wire, attach a D6 female blade connector from the Ford Wire Harness Terminal Repair Kit, Box 1. Refer to Fig 2 .

  4. Connect the breakout box to the vehicle.
  5. Connect the ends of the jumper wires which contain the D6 female blade connectors through the rear of the DLC in locations 1 and
  6. Refer to Fig 3 .

  7. Connect the ends of the jumper wires which contain the A5 male pin connectors to the breakout box in the locations shown in the PIN LOCATION CHART.
  8. Perform diagnostics as necessary.
  9. Remove the jumper wires from the vehicle and retain for future use on 1995 Probes, with CD4E transaxles, which are missing the DLC pins.
NOTE: In order to remove the terminals from the DLC, carefully release the terminal by depressing the plastic finger that locks the terminal in place.
