Headlight Doors Inoperative

  1. Check 20-amp RETRA fuse in main fuse junction panel. If fuse is okay, go to step 4). If fuse is not okay, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Replace 20-amp fuse. If the fuse failed again, go to next step. If fuse is okay, go to step 4).
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect headlight retractor motor connector. Remove 20-amp RETRA fuse. Measure resistance of Red/White wire between fuse terminal and ground. If resistance is greater than 10,000 ohms, replace 20-amp fuse and go to next step. If resistance is less than 10,000 ohms, repair Red/White wire.
  4. Turn ignition off. Disconnect retractor CPU connector. Disconnect door motor connectors. Measure voltage on Red/White wire at each door motor connectors and Red/Green wire at CPU. If reading is greater than 10 volts, go to next step. If reading is less than 10 volts, repair wires in question.
  5. Turn ignition off. Disconnect retractor CPU connector. Turn headlights and high beams on. Measure voltage on White and Red/White wires at CPU connector. If voltage readings are more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage readings are less than 10 volts, repair wire(s) in question.
  6. Turn ignition off. Disconnect door motor connectors. Measure resistance of Black wires between motor connectors and ground. If resistances are less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistances are more than 5 ohms, repair Black wire in question.
  7. Turn ignition off. Disconnect retractor CPU connector and door motor connectors. Measure resistance between Red/Blue wire at CPU connector and Red wire of motor connector. Measure resistance between White/Blue wire of CPU connector and Orange/Black wire of motor connector. Resistances should be less than 5 ohms. Measure resistance between Red/Blue and White/Blue wires of CPU connector and ground. Resistance should be more than 10,000 ohms. If resistances are okay, go to next step. If resistances are not okay, repair wire(s) in questions.
  8. Turn ignition off. Reconnect CPU connector. Measure voltage between ground and Red/Blue and White/Blue wires at CPU connector with combination switch in positions shown in COMBINATION SWITCH VOLTAGE  table.
    COMBINATION SWITCH VOLTAGE

    Switch Position Wire Colors Volts
    Flash-To-Pass White/Blue 0
    Flash-To-Pass Red/Blue 12
    Headlights On White/Blue 0
    Headlights On Red/Blue 12
    Headlights Off White/Blue 12
    Headlights Off Red/Blue 0
  9. If voltages are correct, replace headlight door motor that is inoperative. If voltages are not correct, replace CPU.
