Coolant Temperature Sensor/Switch (For Computer): Service and Repair

REMOVAL and INSTALLATION

Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor:

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.

NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the powertrain control module (PCM) relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 miles) or more to relearn the strategy.

2. Partially drain engine cooling system.

3. Disconnect engine control sensor wiring from engine coolant temperature sensor.

4. Remove engine coolant temperature sensor from intake manifold.

5. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten engine coolant temperature sensor to 14-19 Nm (10-14 lb ft). Refill engine cooling system.
