Test R: Traction Control Completely Inoperative

  1. Check Brakelight Operation If brakelights are off without applying brake pedal, go to next step. If brakelights are illuminated without applying brake pedal, repair brakelight circuit.
  2. Check TCS Disable Switch Disconnect traction control switch. Check switch continuity. With switch in ON position, continuity should exist between switch pins No. 1 and 2. See Figure. With switch in OFF position, continuity should exist between switch pins No. 2 and 4. If continuity is as specified, go to next step. If continuity is not as specified, replace traction control switch. Retest system.
  3. Check Speed Control Circuit Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Disconnect traction disable switch. Measure voltage between ground and traction control switch connector Black/Blue wire. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 10 volts or less, problem is in cruise control system. See appropriate CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM article in the ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT section.
  4. Check For Short To Ground Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect ABS control module 22-pin connector C132 and Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) 8-pin connector C130 (located below brake master cylinder). Connect Breakout Box (007-00033) and Adapter (007-00115). Leave HCU 8-pin connector C130 disconnected. Measure resistance between ground and test pin No. 7 at breakout box. If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 10k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in Black/White wire. Reconnect all connectors and retest system.
  5. Check For Open Measure resistance between test pin No. 7 at breakout box and traction control switch connector Black/White wire. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Black/White wire. Reconnect all connectors and retest system.
  6. Check TRACTION CONTROL Light Disconnect breakout box and adapters. Inspect, clean and reconnect ABS control module 22-pin connector C132 and Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) 8-pin connector C130. Start engine and observe traction control indicator. Cycle traction control disable switch on and off. If traction control indicator does not cycle on and off, replace ABS relay and go to next step. If traction control indicator cycles on and off, fault was intermittent. System is operational at this time. No further testing is required. Clear all DTCs.
  7. Check ABS Control Module Start engine and observe traction control indicator. If traction control indicator does not operate properly, replace HCU. If traction control indicator operates properly, fault was corrected in previous step. Clear all DTCs.
