Anti-Lock Brake System: Description

The 4-wheel Anti-Lock (4WAL) brake system is designed to allow the vehicle to stop in the shortest possible distance while maintaining full steering control. ABS system consists of an ABS Control Module, Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU), 2 front wheel speed sensors and toothed sensor rings, rear axle speed sensor and toothed sensor ring, system diode, main relay, pump motor relay, ANTI-LOCK and BRAKE warning lights and wiring harness.

Two warning lights (ABS and BRAKE) alert vehicle operator of problems in braking system. Red BRAKE warning light monitors master cylinder fluid level and parking brake lever status. Amber ABS warning light alerts vehicle operator to problems in ABS system. See DIAGNOSIS & TESTING  .
