Drive Cycle Mode 1
- 1) Ensure no vacuum leaks exist. Warm engine to normal operating temperature. Turn off all accessories. Ensure idle speed and ignition timing are within specification.
- 2) Turn ignition off. Set parking brake and block drive wheels. With transmission in Neutral (M/T) or Park (A/T), start engine.
- 3) Increase engine speed approximately 1750 RPM and hold steady for 15 seconds. Increase engine speed and hold steady for 15 seconds at each of the following engine speeds: 2000, 2250, 3000, 3500, 4000, 4250, 4500, 4750, 5000, 5250 and 5500. These engine speeds have variance of 125 RPM.
- 4) Release throttle and let engine idle. If cooling fan comes on while idling, continue idling for 30 seconds after cooling fan turns off.
- 5) To verify if Mode 1 was successful, connect NGS scan tool and select PID/DATA MONITOR. Mode 1 PID should indicate ACTIVE. If Mode 1 procedure was carefully followed but not successfully completed, go to CIRCUIT TEST QC, to diagnose cause of Mode 1 failure.
