Anti-Lock Brake System - W/Traction Control: Description

CAUTION: See ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SAFETY PRECAUTIONS article in the GENERAL INFORMATION section.
NOTE: For more information on brake system, see BRAKE SYSTEM article in the BRAKES section.

The Mecatronic I/II Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) is used on vehicles with ABS and traction control. The Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) allows the driver to stop vehicle in the shortest distance while maintaining steering control. The 4-wheel ABS system prevents wheel lock-up by modulating the brake pressure at each wheel independently during an emergency stop. System consists of a master cylinder/booster assembly, Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU)/ABS control module, electric pump/motor, brakelight switch, 4 wheel speed sensors and 2 warning lights (ABS and BRAKE). Traction Control System (TCS) works with ABS to control wheel spin when vehicle is accelerating on slippery or loose surfaces.
