Test A: Abs Sensors & Sensor Indicators
- System Integrity Check
Visually inspect all wiring, wiring harnesses, connectors, brakelines and components for overheating, insulation damage, looseness, shorting or other damage. If faults are found, repair as necessary. If no faults are found, go to next step. - Check For Short To Ground
Turn ignition off. Disconnect ABS control module connector. ABS control module is located behind left cowl side trim panel. Set DVOM on 200-k/ohm scale. Measure and record resistance between ground and each of following ABS control module connector wire terminals. See WHEEL SPEED SENSOR WIRE COLOR IDENTIFICATION table. If all resistances are more than 10,000 ohms, go to next step. If any resistance is 10,000 ohms or less, repair short to ground in suspect wire(s) between ABS control module and wheel speed sensor(s). Go to next step.WHEEL SPEED SENSOR WIRE COLOR IDENTIFICATIONWheel Speed Sensor Wire Color LF Yellow/Green RF Yellow LR White RR Green - Control Module Connector Resistance Check
Turn ignition off. Verify ABS control unit connector is disconnected. Set DVOM on 2000 ohm scale. Measure and record resistance between each of following ABS connector wire terminals. See WIRE COLOR TERMINAL IDENTIFICATION table. If all resistances are 1600-2000 ohms, go to step 5). If any resistance is not 1600-2000 ohms, go to next step.WIRE COLOR TERMINAL IDENTIFICATIONWheel Speed Sensor Wire Color LF Red & Yellow/Green RF Orange & Yellow LR Red & White RR Blue & Green - Wheel Speed Sensor Resistance Check
Turn ignition off. Disconnect suspect wheel speed sensor(s). Measure resistance between terminals of wheel speed sensor. If resistance is 1600-2000 ohms, repair wire(s) between sensor and ABS control module connector. If any resistance is not 1600-2000 ohms, replace faulty wheel speed sensor. - Wheel Speed Sensor Signal Check
Turn ignition off. Raise and support vehicle. Disconnect ABS control module connector. ABS control module is located behind left cowl side trim panel. Set DVOM on 5-volt AC scale. While rotating each wheel at 60 RPM (one revolution per second), measure and record voltage at each of following wires at ABS control module connector. See WIRE COLOR TERMINAL IDENTIFICATION table. If all voltages are .25-3.0 volts AC, go to step 7). If any voltage is not .25-3.0 volts, go to next step. - Sensor & Rotor Check
Raise and support vehicle. Remove wheel to access wheel speed sensor in question. Check for damage to sensor and rotor. Check for any object sticking to sensor or rotor. Check clearance between sensor and rotor. Adjust as necessary. See WHEEL SPEED SENSORS under ADJUSTMENTS. Ensure sensor is properly tightened. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . If fault is found, repair as necessary. If conditions are okay, replace wheel speed sensor. - Stoplight Circuit Check
Depress brake pedal. Ensure proper stoplight operation. If stoplights operate properly, go to next step. If stoplights do not operate properly, repair switch or circuit as necessary. - Stoplight Switch Voltage Check
Turn ignition off. Disconnect ABS control module connector. ABS control module is located behind left cowl side trim panel. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and White/Green wire at ABS control module connector. With brake pedal depressed, voltage should be more than 10 volts. With brake pedal released, voltage should be 0-2 volts. If voltages are as specified, go to TEST G . If voltages are not as specified, repair White/Green wire between ABS control module and stoplight switch.
