Test C: Wipers Inoperative

  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Interval Wiper/Washer Module (IWWM) connector. IWWM is located behind instrument panel, to left of steering column. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage wire at IWWM harness connector terminal No. 2 (White/Black wire). See Fig 1 . If battery voltage exists, reconnect IWWM connector and go to step 6). If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step.

  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect wiper motor connector. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage at wiper motor connector White/Black wire terminal. If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step. If battery voltage exists, repair open in White/Black wire between IWWM and fuse junction panel.
  3. Turn ignition off. Remove fuse No. 10 (30-amp) from fuse junction panel. If fuse is faulty, go to next step. If fuse is good, repair open in White/Black wire and retest system.
  4. Measure resistance of White/Black wire between IWWM connector and ground. See Fig 1 . If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in White/Black wire and retest system.
  5. Ensure wiper motor connector is connected. Measure resistance of White/Black wire between IWWM connector and ground. See Fig 1 . If resistance is 10 /ohms or less, replace wiper motor. If resi stance is greater than 10 k/ohms, replace fuse No. 10 (30-amp). If fuse blows again, replace IWWM. after repair, retest system.
  6. Turn ignition off. Disconnect wiper motor connector. Measure voltage at wiper motor connector White/Black wire terminal. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open in White/Black wire and retest system.
  7. Turn ignition off. Set wiper switch for high speed operation. Measure resistance IWWM connector terminals No. 1 and 7. See Fig 1 . If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to step 10).
  8. Disconnect multifunction switch connector. Measure resistance of Brown/White wire between IWWM connector and multifunction switch connector. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Brown/White wire and retest system.
  9. Disconnect multifunction switch connector. Measure resistance of Orange wire between IWWM connector and multifunction switch connector. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace multifunction switch. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Orange wire. After repair, retest system.
  10. Reconnect IWWM connector. Set wiper switch for high speed operation. Measure voltage between Yellow/Red and White wires at wiper motor harness connector. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, go to step 12).
  11. Turn ignition off. Reconnect wiper motor connector. Disconnect linkage from wiper motor. Set wiper switch for high speed operation. If wiper motor operates, check for binding or damaged wiper linkage. Repair as necessary. If wiper motor does not operate, replace wiper motor, After repair, retest system.
  12. Turn ignition off. Disconnect IWWM connector. Measure resistance of Yellow/Red wire between IWWM connector and wiper motor connector. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace IWWM. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Yellow/Red wire or Orange wire between wiper motor and IWWM. After repair, retest system.
